Producer Spotlight: Catching Up with Colman
When it comes to top educational video content, presentation counts. Colman Communications, a producer of award-winning educational, informational and instructional videos for classroom use since 1971, thrives on that philosophy.
Warren Colman, president and CEO of Colman Communications, knows the importance of experience when it comes to putting presentation first. Over the years, he's gained national and international attention as a multi-award winning producer, director and writer. But what sets Colman apart as an educational video producer most is his past role as a classroom teacher.
Learn360 caught up with Colman to discuss Colman Communications' popular lineup of educational video titles, how his own experiences in the classroom molded his approach, and where the company is headed next.
Q: What do you feel is the main difference between educational and entertainment video content?
A: Having spent years as a teacher myself, I firmly believe that education and entertainment go hand in hand if you want to make a real impact. Although one of education's primary goals is to relay facts, information must be conveyed in an entertaining way to keep kids' attention levels up and enthusiasm high. An interesting, well-crafted program engages students without making the lesson feel like learning.
